In August 2018, a major blaze destroyed Belfast’s historic Bank Buildings that, at the time, were home to a flagship retail branch of Primark. The fire blazed for three days and resulted in disruption to city centre businesses as well as significant damage to the historic built environment of Belfast. Ruled as accidental, the cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Health and Safety Executive.

Hotspot responds as soon as abnormal heat (80ºC ± 5°C) is detected within an electrical system.  Once activated, Single and Multi-Point Sensors can either automatically isolate the circuit supply by triggering the RCD or provide a notification to an alarm panel or mobile device – long before the temperature can increase to the point of ignition.

It can be connected to virtually any system to provide nominated personnel with instant notification or disconnect the electrical supply if the site is vacated, before it results in a fire. It is suitable for use in new and existing consumer units and distribution boards.

Heritage properties can be particularly vulnerable to the risk of fire during renovation works. WES3 is perfect for use in these sensitive projects because it is wireless and EN54 compliant. Often these historic buildings are of both architectural and cultural significance so ensuring they have the highest protection possible is even more important.

An example of this in practice is at Stanford Hall DNRC project where our system was specified as it could replicate Zurich Insurance’s expectation that the temporary fire alarm system should ‘mirror the hardwired system’ fitted at Stanford Hall.

WES3 system can be easily deployed or relocated without any damage to the building’s fabric or complex installation. The units are placed in accordance with the building’s fire plan – including stairwells, lift shafts, and other appropriate locations according to the plan. WES call points are interlinked, meaning that all areas receive the same audible and visual alert signal, even if the fire is contained to just one of them.

Units can be numbered allowing for easy identification in the event of any issues and enabling personnel to quickly locate any reported incidents. Heat, smoke or dust resistant smoke detectors provide 24/7 automatic fire protection when site is unattended.
